We are a grassroots interfaith network that cultivates peace and justice by engaging people to bridge religious and cultural differences and work together for the good of their communities and the world.

We envision a world at peace, sustained by and interconnected communities commited to respect for diversity, non violent resolution of conflict and social, political, economic and enviromental justice.

OUR MEMBERSHIP

URI-GL has both group and individual membership. Group membership is composed of coalitions commonly known as Cooperation Circles (CCs). These CCs comprise of people from different religious backgrounds.

OUR VISION

Northern Uganda which has suffered for two decades is currently threatened to be torn apart by the prevalent land conflicts. It is absurd that many lives have been lost once more as the people struggle to acquire land.

WHAT WE DO

Peace Building

This action area brings together URI’s network of peace-builders to make a positive difference in the world.

The Youth Program

The URI-GL Youth program is increasingly focused on strategies to cultivate and train a new generation of compassionate and effective leaders

Environment Conservation

We understand this to mean living in peaceful relationship with the natural world, behaving justly within the human family

Interfaith Cooperation

At URI-GL we promote interfaith and Intercultural cooperation to enhance peace through the promotion of co-existence

Human Rights and Justice

Faith groups by default are the custodians of justice or fairness. The golden Rule that embodies extracts from the various faith traditions

Regional

URI- GL is currently working with its partners on country specific programs within the Great Lakes countries

Global Advocacy

URI-GL works with URI global office, URI Africa office and URI regional centers around the world to implement programs of a global nature

URI Women's Initiative

Principle 8 of the URI Charter encourages the practice of equitable participation of women and men in all aspects of the URI

The United Religions Initiative Great Lakes (URI-GL) is an interfaith non –governmental grassroots interfaith network organization registered and operating in Uganda and harnessing URI global related work in the Great Lakes countries. It that cultivates peace and justice by engaging people to bridge religious differences and work together for the good of their communities and the society.
